KAESP Attends NAESP/NASSP National School Leaders Advocacy Conference

Jason McGlone, principal of Prichard Elementary School in Carter County, John Ansman, KAESP Federal Relations and Treasurer, and Rosie Young, Executive DIrector, represented Kentucky School Leaders at this conference. The event gathers principal leaders from across the country in the nation’s capital to build attendees’ leadership skills, knowledge around how federal policies and programs impact principals and schools, and how to advocate on these issues.

The culminating event is the visit to our Congressional leaders’ offices to discuss the needs of our students and schools. We were able to visit all of our Legislators except for Senator Rand Paul’s office.

A highlight for KAESP was our recognition for membership increases. We tied for 1st place with Vermont for the highest percentage of increase in membership. For this recognition, we will received an acrylic plaque and a monetary award. Thank you for joining KAESP and NAESP and making this possible!

KAESP Fall Institute

Our KAESP Fall Institute was an outstanding opportunity to learn together and network. The focus of the institute was Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Jill Handley, jCPS Assistant Superientendent of Multilingual Learners, shared great ideas for connecting schools with diverse communities.  Our KDE friends, Dr. Kelly Foster, Ruth Swanson, Jennifer Donnely, and Juett Wells, shared the outstanding resources available through KDE.  Dr. Terry Brooksm Executive Directors of the Kentucly Youth Advocates, inspired us to be more and do more.  Finally, our keynote presenter, Dr. Kristilynn Turney, an expert on school improvment and issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion, engaged us in thought provoking discussions to connect with each student in our schools.  Check her out at www.drkristilynnturney.com.
